Ahadu Bank Hits 1.07 Billion Birr Pre-Tax Profit as Revenue Grows 48%

Net profit reaches 784.2 million birr; deposits hit 10.47 billion birr as the bank expands to 107 branches and launches two digital apps

Ahadu Bank has reported a pre-tax profit of 1.07 billion birr for the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year, a 113.1 percent increase over the same period a year earlier.

The result marks a significant turnaround for one of Ethiopia’s newest banks, which has moved from early-stage losses to solid profitability in a short period.

The bank earned total revenue of 3.2 billion birr during the fiscal year, up 48 percent. After deposit interest and operating expenses, pre-tax profit stood at 1.07 billion birr, while net profit reached 784.2 million birr.

Ahadu Bank disclosed the results in a report presented at its annual shareholders’ meeting on November 7, 2026.

Ahadu Bank is one of Ethiopia’s newer commercial banks, having begun operations in 2022.

At launch, it had a paid-up capital of 564 million birr and a subscribed capital of 702 million birr, and it committed to allocating 15 percent of its total loans to youth and entrepreneurs.

Like many new entrants, the bank initially incurred losses linked to the high costs of establishing a foothold in a competitive industry. It has since pursued rapid branch expansion and a digital-focused strategy aimed at long-term profitability.

Ethiopia’s banking sector has expanded rapidly over the past decade, with deposits, loans and profits all rising steadily. Against that backdrop, Ahadu Bank’s 113.1 percent profit growth stands out.

According to the report, the bank’s total assets reached 14.32 billion birr. Its paid-up capital stood at 1.24 billion birr, while total capital reached 2.34 billion birr.

The bank said it is preparing a prospectus to attract investors as it seeks to participate in the capital market and strengthen its capital base.

Total deposits reached 10.47 billion birr. Of the total, 54.4 percent was held in regular deposits, 34.3 percent in demand savings, and 11.3 percent in time deposits.

Ahadu Bank obtained US$121.3 million in foreign currency during the fiscal year, US33 million dollars more than in the previous year.

The bank provided 2.8 billion birr to various economic sectors during the fiscal year, bringing total loans disbursed to 7.14 billion birr.

Of the loans provided, 93.4 percent were classified as healthy, 2 percent were non-performing, and 4.5 percent required special attention.

The bank’s total liabilities were 11.99 billion birr, accounting for 83.7 percent of total assets.

Ahadu Bank reported 107 branches, 1.3 million customers and 968 employees.

During the fiscal year, the bank purchased a 17-storey building and launched two digital applications, Ahadu LeKulu and Mahder.
